Guardians of the Kelp Forest: Sea Otters
Guardians of the Kelp Forest: Sea Otters
Sea Otters are a species that is truly at an “in-between” stage of evolution or “adaptation” to their environment. This documentary shows how they have adapted certain techniques such as learning to use tools which is something that has only since been observed in primates and humans as well as some of their unique evolutions such as having evolved “pockets” in their fur under their armpits in order to store the food they catch as they “free dive”. It’s fascinating to compare sea otters adaptations and evolutions to different marine mammals that took to the seas millions of years earlier such as sea lions, seals, or whales, and see the differences in comparison.
